The IPL 2026 season served up some serious drama as former teammates Nicholas Pooran and Krunal Pandya locked horns in a heated on-field exchange during a crucial match between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Thursday.
The tension boiled over when Krunal, now bowling for RCB, greeted his old LSG teammate with a surprise bouncer clocking in at 119 kmph. Pooran, caught off guard by the unexpected pace and bounce, failed to make contact. Krunal followed up with another short ball, which Pooran managed to tap for a single. But as the West Indies batter completed the run, he marched straight toward Krunal, and the two exchanged words that had cameras zooming in. The moment looked intense but quickly fizzled out as Krunal returned to his mark to continue the over.
Adding spice to the showdown: the pair previously shared a dressing room at Lucknow Super Giants before Krunal's move to RCB. Pooran, fresh off a confidence-boosting knock against Mumbai Indians, had been promoted to No. 3 in a must-win situation for LSG, who were fighting to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Despite the rain interruptions that trimmed the game to 19 overs per side, the match turned into a run-fest. Mitchell Marsh stole the show with a blistering 111 off just 56 balls, smashing nine fours and nine sixes. He built a 95-run partnership with opener Arshin Kulkarni and another 70-run stand with Pooran, who chipped in with a solid 38. Captain Rishabh Pant added the finishing touches with a quickfire 32 not out off just 10 deliveries, powering LSG to a massive 209 for 3.
For RCB, Krunal finished with respectable figures of 1 for 31, while Josh Hazlewood also picked up a wicket. But the night belonged to Marsh—and that fiery exchange between two players who know each other all too well.
