In a spectacular display of power-hitting, Finn Allen announced himself on the IPL stage with a maiden century that will be remembered for years to come. The 25-year-old New Zealand opener smashed an unbeaten 100 off just 47 balls during Match 51 against Delhi Capitals, propelling Kolkata Knight Riders to a commanding victory and etching his name into the franchise's history books.
Allen's breathtaking knock, which included a staggering 10 sixes, places him in an elite group of KKR centurions alongside legends Brendon McCullum and Sunil Narine. Remarkably, he becomes only the fourth batter in KKR's 19-season IPL history to achieve this milestone. His innings powered Kolkata to chase down Delhi's 142-run target with ease, aided by Cameron Green's valuable 33-run cameo.
The statistics are impressive: Allen's 10 sixes rank third on KKR's all-time list for most sixes in a single IPL innings, trailing only Andre Russell (11 sixes) and McCullum's iconic 13 sixes from his unforgettable 158* in the inaugural IPL match back in 2008.
Speaking after receiving the Player of the Match award, Allen revealed his game plan and mentality during the innings. "What I've been working on is trying to have more strings to my bow. We obviously lost a couple of early wickets, so I just tried to take a bit of responsibility and get a win on the board for the boys," he explained.
The KKR opener also acknowledged the challenging conditions early in the innings, particularly praising Delhi's Axar Patel for his disciplined bowling spell. "It was still a little bit challenging at the start. Axar bowled really well and restricted us. So I just tried to get into strong positions and bat deep," Allen added.
This performance not only cements Allen's place in KKR's record books but also serves as a reminder of the explosive talent that makes the IPL such a thrilling spectacle for cricket fans worldwide.
