Young Australian Cooper Connolly achieved IPL history with a stunning unbeaten 107 against Sunrisers Hyderabad, becoming the youngest overseas batter to score a century. Despite his remarkable knock, Punjab Kings fell short by 33 runs. Connolly's century, his first in the IPL, showcased a brilliant lone-hand effort in a high-scoring chase.

History was made under the floodlights in Hyderabad as 22-year-old Cooper Connolly announced himself on the biggest stage. The Punjab Kings youngster produced a stunning unbeaten 107 off just 59 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad, becoming the youngest overseas batter to score a century in IPL history.

It was a knock that had everything—power, poise, and plenty of sixes. But in a cruel twist of fate, Connolly's brilliance wasn't enough to secure victory. Despite his lone-hand effort, PBKS fell 33 runs short in a high-scoring chase, as SRH climbed to the top of the IPL 2026 standings with a commanding win at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

At 22 years and 257 days, Connolly shattered a decade-old record previously held by Quinton de Kock (23y 122d), who scored his maiden IPL century for Delhi Daredevils in 2016. The young Australian now sits atop an elite list that includes David Miller and Cameron Green—company that speaks volumes about the talent on display.

But this wasn't just any century. Connolly's unbeaten 107 is only the second IPL hundred by a PBKS batter at the age of 22, joining Prabhsimran Singh in an exclusive club. And with eight sixes in his innings, he also set a new franchise record for the most maximums by a 22-year-old in an IPL knock, surpassing his own previous best of seven against Lucknow Super Giants earlier this season.

The chase, however, started disastrously. Chasing a daunting 236, Punjab's top order crumbled under pressure. Priyansh Arya fell for one in the opening over, Nitish Kumar Reddy dismissed Prabhsimran Singh cheaply, and skipper Shreyas Iyer was removed for just five by Eshan Malinga. At 23/3 inside four overs, the match seemed all but over.

But Connolly had other ideas. As wickets tumbled around him, he launched a fearless counterattack, finding brief support from Marcus Stoinis (28 off 14), Suryansh Shedge (25 off 17), and Marco Jansen (19). Yet, with the asking rate hovering above 15 for most of the innings, even a record-breaking knock couldn't bridge the gap.

For Connolly, though, this was a coming-of-age performance. In a tournament that thrives on big moments and bigger stars, the young Australian proved he belongs on the biggest stage of all.
