IPL 2026 | 'We are going to ... ': Yashasvi Jaiswal's short reaction after Rajasthan Royals collapse vs Gujarat Titans

Yashasvi Jaiswal's first IPL captaincy ended in a crushing 77-run defeat for Rajasthan Royals against Gujarat Titans. Despite a strong start from GT's Gill and Sudharsan, RR's bowling attack struggled, and their batting lineup was subsequently bundled out for 152. Jaiswal defended star pacer Jofra Archer, acknowledging the unpredictable nature of cricket.

The debut of Yashasvi Jaiswal as IPL captain was a baptism by fire, as his Rajasthan Royals side suffered a heavy 77-run defeat against Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. The young stand-in skipper’s disappointment was evident after his team’s batting lineup crumbled under pressure, chased down a massive target, and fell short in a match that showcased the unpredictable highs and lows of T20 cricket.

Gujarat Titans got off to a flying start, with captain Shubman Gill smashing a blistering 84 and Sai Sudharsan contributing a composed 55. The pair put together a 118-run opening partnership that set the tone for the innings, propelling GT to a daunting 229 for 4. Washington Sundar added the finishing touches with an unbeaten 37 off 20 balls, leaving RR with a mountain to climb.

When asked about the challenge of GT’s strong start, Jaiswal reflected, "We were just thinking to bowl in good areas, and they were batting pretty well. We were thinking how we can cut down the boundaries or big shots. It was pretty good from them." For RR, right-arm medium pacer Brijesh Sharma was the standout bowler with figures of 2/47, while Yash Raj Punja and Ravindra Jadeja picked up one wicket each.

Defending their imposing total, GT’s bowling attack was relentless. Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan starred with brilliant figures of 4/33, while Jason Holder (3/12) and Kagiso Rabada (2/33) applied the pressure. RR were bundled out for just 152 in 16.3 overs, marking their second consecutive defeat in the tournament.

Jaiswal remained philosophical about the loss, saying, "Nothing much went wrong tonight. We are going to look at what we can do better and just look for the next game, what we can learn from this game." He also came to the defense of star pacer Jofra Archer, who had an off day, conceding 18 runs in an 11-ball spell during his first over. "No, it’s cricket. We all know that there are some days where you are in, some days where you cannot bowl how you want to. But he’s been doing so well for us. I think he’ll be coming back very strongly," Jaiswal said.

As the Royals look to regroup, fans will be hoping for a stronger performance in their next outing. For now, it’s a learning curve for the young captain and his team.
