Jasprit Bumrah has built a legendary reputation as Mumbai Indians' strike bowler since his debut in 2013, but in IPL 2026, he added a new feather to his cap—captaincy. Leading MI for the first time in the absence of regular skipper Hardik Pandya and stand-in captain Suryakumar Yadav, Bumrah guided the team to a convincing six-wicket victory over Punjab Kings in Dharamsala. It was a debut in charge that showcased his tactical acumen and calm leadership.
This wasn't Bumrah's first rodeo as captain. He has previously led India in Test matches, including the 2024/25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia and the rescheduled Birmingham Test against England in 2022. He also captained India in two T20Is, winning both. After the win over Punjab Kings, Bumrah was asked about his experience and couldn't resist a lighthearted moment. "Yeah, first game, like I said, I've captained a Test match. I've captained T20Is. Now the only game that is left is ODI cricket. But I don't see that happening (laughs). Jokes apart, really happy. I had good fun, good weather, great ground. So enjoyed my time," he said with a smile.
Despite MI being already out of the IPL 2026 playoff race, the team showed grit and flair. A blazing half-century from Tilak Varma and an explosive innings from Ryan Rickelton powered Mumbai Indians to the six-wicket win, with Bumrah praising the team's execution. He noted that the surface was drier than expected, making consistent lengths crucial. "Both teams played good cricket, and we really pulled back well. The wicket looked a little bit drier than the previous one, but whatever we planned, we executed well," Bumrah added.
For cricket fans and sports apparel enthusiasts, Bumrah's leadership moment is a reminder of the versatility and composure that define champions—qualities that translate perfectly to the gear you wear on and off the field.
