The Iowa Hawkeyes wrestling program is turning to a homegrown legend to bolster its coaching staff, announcing the hiring of five-time NCAA All-American Jacob Warner as a new assistant coach. This move brings a celebrated alum back into the fold as the team looks to build momentum for the future.

Warner steps into the role vacated by Bobby Telford, who departed after the 2025-26 season. With this appointment, the entire Iowa coaching lineup now consists of former Hawkeye greats, creating a powerful continuity of culture under head coach Tom Brands, associate head coach Terry Brands, and assistant Ryan Morningstar.

While this marks Warner's first official coaching title, he is no stranger to mentoring within the program. As a member of the Hawkeye Wrestling Club, he has been instrumental in developing current collegiate athletes, earning praise from standouts like national champion Stephen Buchanan for his impactful guidance.

"Jacob knows what it takes to compete at the highest level, both on and off the mat," said Tom Brands in a statement. "He represents everything Iowa wrestling stands for. His toughness, discipline and relentless work ethic will be a tremendous asset."

Warner's credentials as a competitor are impeccable. He compiled a 97-28 career record at Iowa, culminating in an NCAA runner-up finish in 2022. His decorated career also includes international experience, with a bronze medal at the 2016 Cadet World Championships and a spot on the 2018 Junior World team.
