Iowa State wrestling announced the addition of Javier Maldonado as an assistant wrestling coach on Tuesday.

The Iowa State Cyclones wrestling program just got a major boost with the addition of Javier Maldonado as an assistant coach, announced Tuesday. Maldonado brings a wealth of experience to Ames, most recently serving as the associate head coach at Little Rock, where he played a key role in launching the program from the ground up. Over his seven seasons with the Trojans, including three as associate head coach, he helped build a competitive culture from scratch.

Head coach Brent Metcalf couldn't be more excited about the hire. "My primary goal when building out this coaching staff was to find good people who will develop well-rounded young men, and I believe Javier fits that mold perfectly," Metcalf said in a release. "He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience at multiple levels of wrestling, and his ability to recruit and develop athletes is top notch. I'm excited for him to get to Ames and help us reach the next level."

This move is the latest in a series of bold steps for Iowa State wrestling, which recently launched a women's program and brought in new head coaches for both the men's and women's teams. With Maldonado's proven track record in building programs and developing talent, the Cyclones are clearly positioning themselves for a bright future on the mat. For fans and athletes alike, this is a sign that Iowa State is serious about competing at the highest level.
