For the first time since 2019, Iowa State basketball fans have a double reason to celebrate. Milan Momcilovic and Joshua Jefferson have both received invitations to the 2026 NBA Draft Combine, marking a major milestone for the Cyclones program.
The exclusive eight-day showcase, set for May 10-17 in Chicago, will give these two standouts a chance to go head-to-head with 71 other elite prospects in front of NBA decision-makers. The venue? Wintrust Arena and the Marriott Marquis—where draft dreams are made or broken.
Let's start with Joshua Jefferson. The 6-foot-9 forward has been nothing short of spectacular this season. He became Iowa State's first consensus All-American since Georges Niang in 2016, and his stat line tells the story: 16.4 points, 7.4 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 1.6 steals per game. But here's the jaw-dropper—Jefferson is the only player in Cyclones history to record multiple triple-doubles, and he pulled off both within a three-week stretch. That's the kind of versatility that gets scouts talking.
Then there's Milan Momcilovic, who took his game to another level as a junior. The All-Big 12 second-teamer led the team in scoring at 16.9 points per game, but his shooting is what truly stands out. Momcilovic shot a blistering 48.6% from three-point range, leading the entire nation in both three-point percentage and total makes (136). That record-breaking number shattered Dedric Willoughby's 1996-97 mark of 102 triples—and Momcilovic did it in a single season after making just 124 combined threes in his first two years.
His efficiency numbers are equally impressive: a 69.3% true shooting percentage (fifth nationally) and a 67.2% effective field-goal percentage (13th in the country). For context, those are numbers typically reserved for dominant big men, not sharpshooting wings.
Momcilovic has declared for the NBA Draft, but he's keeping his options open. He has until May 27 to decide whether to stay in the draft or return to college—and he's already entered the transfer portal as a safety net. If he chooses to come back, he'll have one more year of eligibility elsewhere.
As for draft projections, ESPN's latest mock has Jefferson going 30th overall and Momcilovic at 37th. The Athletic sees Jefferson at 33rd but doesn't include Momcilovic in their first-round projections. Either way, both players have put Iowa State back on the NBA radar in a big way.
For Cyclones fans, this is a moment to savor. The last time Iowa State had two players at the combine was 2019—and now, with Jefferson's all-around brilliance and Momcilovic's historic shooting, the future looks brighter than ever.
