The future of Iowa Hawkeyes basketball just got a whole lot brighter. The program has secured a major in-state victory, landing a commitment from four-star wing Jaidyn Coon for its 2026 recruiting class.

Coon, a 6-foot-7 standout from Storm Lake High School, is ranked as the No. 116 national prospect and the third-best player in Iowa for his class. His senior season stats tell the story of a versatile and impactful player: he averaged an impressive 22 points, 9.3 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.7 steals per game.

This commitment is a significant win for head coach Ben McCollum, who has a personal connection to Coon's hometown. After initially committing to Creighton, Coon reopened his recruitment following the retirement of coach Greg McDermott, ultimately choosing the Hawkeyes over other suitors like Nebraska and Illinois.

In his announcement, Coon expressed his excitement, writing on social media, "Thank you Lord for blessing me with an opportunity of a lifetime... GO HAWKS!" His commitment continues a promising trend for McCollum's staff, marking their third four-star high school recruit since taking over the program.

Adding to the excitement, Coon was named Iowa's Mr. Basketball for 2026, meaning the Hawkeyes have now secured the state's top player for two consecutive years. He joins fellow four-star wing Ethan Harris in what is shaping up to be a foundational 2026 class for Iowa.

This infusion of high-level talent, combined with a promising young core already on the roster, signals an exciting new chapter for Hawkeye basketball. Fans have plenty to look forward to as these new pieces develop and aim to elevate the program in the competitive Big Ten landscape.
