While the Iowa Hawkeyes are still putting the finishing touches on their 2027 recruiting class, head coach Kirk Ferentz and his staff are already looking ahead. In a move that signals their commitment to building for the future, Iowa has extended an offer to a promising young quarterback from the 2028 class.
The Hawkeyes recently offered a scholarship to Oscar Sloan, a three-star quarterback from Center Grove High School in Greenwood, Indiana—just outside Indianapolis. Sloan took to social media to share the exciting news, expressing his gratitude to the coaching staff after a productive throwing session and conversation with Iowa's quarterback coach.
Standing at 6-foot-4 and 190 pounds, Sloan is already drawing attention from across the Big Ten. According to 247Sports, he is ranked as the No. 35 quarterback nationally and the No. 6 overall prospect from Indiana in the 2028 class. In addition to Iowa, he holds offers from fellow Big Ten programs Wisconsin, Minnesota, Maryland, and Purdue. Schools like Indiana, Michigan, and Alabama have also shown interest but have yet to extend an offer.
Last season as a sophomore, Sloan led the Center Grove Trojans to an impressive 10-2 record. Despite operating in a run-first offense that rushed for nearly 3,000 yards, he still managed to make his mark. Sloan completed 61% of his passes for 1,689 yards, throwing 13 touchdowns against seven interceptions. His ability to produce in a system not built around the pass speaks to his upside and potential as a future college standout.
With recent success landing quarterbacks in the 2027 class, Ferentz and the Hawkeyes are looking to keep that momentum rolling. By targeting a player like Sloan early, Iowa is making a clear statement about its long-term vision for the program.
