The New England Patriots were reportedly likely to trade for A.J. Brown after June 1, and Adam Schefter recently revealed how the recent Mike Vrabel scandal impacts that.

The New England Patriots have been heavily linked to a blockbuster trade for Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown, and despite recent turmoil surrounding the team, NFL insider Adam Schefter has revealed that the deal remains firmly on track.

Speaking on The Pat McAfee Show on Monday, Schefter addressed the swirling rumors and confirmed that the Mike Vrabel scandal—which has dominated headlines in New England—has not derailed the potential trade. "There's nothing that has transpired here, despite all of the events in New England, that has deterred this trade from coming up," Schefter said. "I still think it is on track. I still think it is going to happen. I still think it's likely to involve a future 1, likely a 2028 first-round draft pick."

The Patriots have been searching for a true No. 1 wide receiver to anchor their passing attack, and Brown—who has posted back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons with the Eagles—fits that bill perfectly. Schefter noted that the trade is expected to be finalized after June 1, a common date for teams to execute deals that provide cap flexibility.

Perhaps the strongest indication that a Brown trade is imminent came during the NFL Draft, when the Patriots notably avoided selecting a wide receiver. While the team signed Romeo Doubs to replace Stefon Diggs, the move alone may not be enough to transform the receiving corps. The fact that New England passed on adding a rookie wideout suggests the front office is confident Brown will be in Foxborough by next month.

On the other side of the equation, the Eagles traded up in the first round to select a wide receiver—a clear signal that Philadelphia is preparing for life without Brown. All signs point to the star pass-catcher's tenure in Philly coming to an end very soon.

For Patriots fans, this is a welcome development after a soul-crushing weekend for Boston sports. If the trade goes through as expected, New England will add one of the most dynamic playmakers in the league—a move that could reshape the entire AFC East landscape.
