The New England Patriots are likely to add a third developmental quarterback to the roster at some point during the 2026 NFL Draft.
New England has Drake Maye and Tommy DeVito locked in as the starter and backup, but the Patriots still could add a developmental quarterback. Ahead of the NFL Draft, Patriots insider Chad Graff of The Athletic links the team to selecting UConn Huskies quarterback Joe Fagnano.
“The Patriots want to add a third quarterback in the coming days, whether that’s via a late-round draft pick or by signing an undrafted player,” Graff wrote. “Fagnano, 25 (two years older than Drake Maye), played an astounding seven collegiate seasons, starting his career at Maine. Late-round quarterbacks are unpredictable, but it will be interesting to see what kind of quarterback the Pats roll the dice on.”
Fagnano played seven years in college, beginning his college career in 2019 at Maine. After four years at Maine, he transferred to UConn and played three more years with the Huskies.
The 6-foot-4 quarterback threw for 3,448 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 1 interception, as it was the best year of his college career. Fagnano is expected to be a seventh-round draft pick or a UDFA, and someone the Patriots could look to bring in and be the third-string quarterback.
The 2026 NFL Draft is set for April 23-25 in Pittsburgh.
