Somerset batter Tom Kohler-Cadmore faces a spell on the sidelines after suffering a fractured thumb.
Kohler-Cadmore, 31, sustained the injury when taking a slip catch during the first morning of the of the County Championship match against Essex.
"Initial assessments conducted at the time of injury demonstrated a significant reduction in his hand function," the club said on their website.
"Further medical assessment and monitoring was carried out over the subsequent recovery period and unfortunately this has confirmed that Tom sustained a fracture to the thumb.
"Tom will now undertake a period of rehabilitation with the Somerset sport science and medical team."
Somerset host Yorkshire in their next County Championship match, starting Friday, 1 May.
