Katherine Legge is the seventh driver to attempt the 1,100-mile feat, though just five have driven in both on the same day.

Katherine Legge is set to make history as the first woman to attempt motorsports' ultimate endurance challenge: racing in both the Indianapolis 500 and NASCAR's Coca-Cola 600 on the same day. The 1,100-mile "Double" is one of the most grueling feats in racing, and Legge is ready to take it on.

"It's been a couple of years in the making," Legge shared on May 13. "I knew that at some point in time it would be something that we looked at doing. But (I) didn't anticipate it being this year."

Legge joins an elite group of just seven drivers who have attempted the Double, though only five have actually driven in both races on the same day. NASCAR star Kyle Larson tried his hand at the feat in both 2024 and 2025, but rain and accidents kept him from completing the full 1,100 miles. Tony Stewart's 2001 effort remains the gold standard, finishing 6th at Indy and 3rd in the Cup race to become the first driver to complete both events.

The schedule is a whirlwind of action. Indy 500 qualifying kicks off Saturday, May 16, from 11 a.m. to 5:50 p.m. Carb Day practice follows Friday, May 22, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Then it's off to NASCAR for Coca-Cola 600 practice and qualifying on Saturday, May 23, starting at 1:30 p.m. Race day—Sunday, May 24—is the true test: the Indy 500 green flag drops at 12:45 p.m. ET, followed by the Coca-Cola 600 at 6 p.m.

Legge's attempt adds a new chapter to the Double's storied history. Robby Gordon made four attempts between 1997 and 2004, with mixed results due to rain and mechanical issues. Tony Stewart's back-to-back tries in 1999 (9th at Indy, 4th in Cup) and 2001 (6th at Indy, 3rd in Cup) set the benchmark. Davy Jones tried in 1995 but failed to qualify for the Cup race. Now, Legge aims to carve her own place in motorsports lore.

Whether she conquers the 1,100 miles or not, Legge's determination is already inspiring a new generation of racers. For fans of speed and endurance, this is a must-watch moment in racing history.
