Their playoff berth was secured in dramatic fashion with a gritty five-set victory over the San Diego Mojo (25-20, 19-25, 22-25, 25-19, 15-9). The win wasn't just about securing a postseason slot; it also solidified their hold on first place. With a 17-4 record and a 1.5-game lead over the Dallas Pulse, the Ignite now have their sights set on capturing the MLV regular-season championship with seven matches remaining.
Thursday's match was a testament to the team's resilience. After San Diego seized momentum with an 8-1 run in the third set, head coach Lauren Bertolacci made crucial adjustments that turned the tide. The move to start rookie Taylor Landfair paid immediate dividends, as she delivered five kills on 10 swings in the fourth set. The return of Lydia Martyn from an ankle injury added a critical spark, contributing two kills and a block.
The decisive fifth set was a masterclass in closing. Led by setter Mia Tuaniga's aggressive top-spin serve, the Ignite stormed out to a 6-0 lead, never looking back. Martyn set the tone early with a massive one-on-one block, while the 6'5" Landfair provided a powerful offensive presence with seven kills when the team needed it most.
