Indiana men's basketball is reloading in a big way. With a roster undergoing its second major rebuild in two years under head coach Darian DeVries, the Hoosiers desperately needed an infusion of talent. That process kicked into high gear on Monday with a trio of backcourt commitments, marking the program's first major moves in the transfer portal this offseason.
The haul is headlined by a familiar face: former Notre Dame guard Braeden Shrewsberry, the son of Irish head coach Micah Shrewsberry. A former top-100 recruit, Shrewsberry brings a coveted scoring punch and deep shooting range to Bloomington. He's joined by Myles Rice, a dynamic and experienced point guard transferring from Washington. Rice, who was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year in 2024, is expected to be an immediate leader and primary ball-handler.
Rounding out the backcourt boost is Kanaan Carlyle, a versatile and athletic guard from Stanford. This trio addresses Indiana's most pressing need, providing a blend of shooting, playmaking, and defensive versatility that should reshape the Hoosiers' perimeter game.
The good news didn't stop there for Indiana fans. The program also hosted Alabama transfer big man Aiden Sherrell for a visit and is reportedly the favorite to land his commitment. Securing Sherrell would be a massive coup, giving DeVries a foundational piece in the frontcourt to complement his new-look guard rotation. After a busy Monday, the momentum in Bloomington is unmistakable.
