The Indiana Hoosiers' backcourt depth is taking another hit this offseason. Guard Jasai Miles announced his intention to enter the transfer portal on Monday, becoming the third former Hoosier to seek a new program and the only one with significant game experience for IU last season.

Miles served in a limited bench role during the 2023-24 campaign, appearing in 26 games and averaging 9.5 minutes. His contributions were modest, with averages of 1.6 points and 1.9 rebounds per game, often being utilized as a defensive and rebounding specialist.

His playing time fluctuated throughout the season. After appearing to fall out of the rotation against high-major opponents early on, Miles re-entered the fray following an injury to teammate Tayton Conerway. He provided valuable energy during a key three-game winning streak against Rutgers, Purdue, and UCLA, pulling down two rebounds in each contest. His season highs included a six-point, five-rebound performance against Milwaukee and a team-leading six rebounds in a game against Michigan State.

Ultimately, Miles's path to increased playing time next season in Bloomington appeared narrow. While the Hoosiers will miss his defensive energy, his offensive production remained limited. This move suggests Miles is seeking a program where he can carve out a larger, more consistent role on the court.

His departure leaves a notable gap in Indiana's guard rotation. With only Nick Dorn and Aleksa Ristic returning from last year's backcourt—both of whom saw even less action than Miles—head coach Darian DeVries faces a familiar challenge. It appears building a competitive backcourt through the transfer portal will once again be a top priority for the Hoosiers this summer.
