One of the breakout stars of the Hoosiers' national championship season suffered an injury. Here's what coach Curt Cignetti said, and what's next.

Indiana football's spring practice is underway, but the Hoosiers are navigating a significant absence. Star wide receiver Charlie Becker, a breakout star from last season's national championship run, is sidelined with a hamstring injury that may keep him out for the remainder of spring drills.

Head coach Curt Cignetti confirmed the setback, noting it's a similar issue that hampered Becker during fall camp last year. "I don't know if he'll be back or not the rest of spring," Cignetti said. "And certainly, we miss him being out there right now."

Becker's absence is a notable blow for a team looking to build on its historic season. He emerged as a primary weapon for the Hoosiers' offense, finishing the year with 34 receptions for 679 yards and four touchdowns. His late-season surge, which included three 100-yard performances in the final seven games, cemented his status as a player the coaching staff "couldn't take off the field." Cignetti praised his finish, stating Becker was "one of the top receivers certainly in the Big Ten Conference."

While Becker recovers, the focus shifts to developing depth and chemistry within the receiver room. The Hoosiers have actively reloaded via the transfer portal, bringing in Michigan State's Nick Marsh and Tulane's Shazz Preston to help replace departed production. The return of former Michigan transfer Tyler Morris from a knee injury adds another experienced option.

Cignetti is also emphasizing the development of younger talents like Davion Chandler and Lebron Bond. "I think the emphasis is probably bringing the two young ones along... and getting Marsh and Shazz going and learning the offense so they're not thinking, which I see progress every day," the coach noted.

Spring is a time for growth and competition, and Indiana's receiving corps is getting a chance to prove its depth. The hope is for a healthy return from Becker, but in the meantime, new playmakers have a prime opportunity to step up and make their mark.
