The Indiana Fever are charging into the 2026 WNBA season with championship dreams, but an early injury scare is already testing their depth. Head coach Stephanie White delivered a concerning update on rookie guard Justine Pissott Thursday, leaving the team's plans in limbo.
Pissott, selected with the 25th overall pick in the second round, showed serious promise in her Fever debut against the New York Liberty last week. In just 10 minutes of action, the former Vanderbilt standout poured in eight points on 2-of-4 shooting, including a pair of smooth three-pointers that showcased her trademark range. For a team eyeing a title run, that kind of instant offense off the bench is exactly what they need.
But ahead of Indiana's latest preseason matchup with the Dallas Wings, Pissott was officially ruled out with a lower leg injury. When White faced the media, her update was anything but reassuring. "I have no idea how long she'll be out," White admitted. "I know she was having some issues... she was going to see the doctor. I don't have exactly what it is. We'll make sure that she gets the attention and the time that she needs."
That's not the kind of news Fever fans wanted to hear, especially after last season's injury bug ripped through the roster. With the regular-season opener against the Wings now just days away, Pissott's status is very much up in the air. If she can't go, expect White to lean heavily on first-round pick Raven Johnson to shoulder the backup guard minutes.
For a team built on youth and ambition, every rookie contribution matters. The Fever will be hoping this is just a minor bump in the road—not a sign of things to come.
