The Indiana Fever are expecting some good news on the injury front. Rookie Justine Pissott, the team's second-round draft pick, is nearing a return to the court after dealing with a lower leg injury.
Head coach Stephanie White provided an update on Saturday, offering a rough timeline for the 6-foot-4 guard/forward. "We hope that she can be ready to at least get back on the court within a week or so," White said, noting that Pissott had several medical appointments this week. "I'm not exactly sure where that lies. I think she's probably got some return appointments to make sure we can move forward."
White has not specified which part of Pissott's lower leg is injured or when the injury occurred. The coach acknowledged that Pissott had dealt with similar issues during her college career at Tennessee and Vanderbilt. "I know she was having some issues, I know she had some stuff collegiately as well," White explained. "She was going to see the doctor, so I don't know exactly what it is. It's early, so we'll take things as they come and make sure that she gets the attention and the time that she needs."
Selected with the No. 25 overall pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft, Pissott was immediately assigned to the Fever's newly created development pool. This strategic move allows the team to protect their rights to the talented rookie. Fever General Manager Amber Cox explained that if they had signed Pissott to a standard contract and later waived her after training camp, she would have been subject to waivers before the team could sign her to a development deal.
For Fever fans, this development pool spot is an intriguing new scenario in the WNBA, giving the team flexibility to develop young talent like Pissott without the pressure of a standard roster spot. With her return potentially just around the corner, the Fever will be eager to see what their second-round pick can bring to the court.
