Indiana basketball is making a bold move to supercharge the atmosphere at Assembly Hall, and it's all about the students. Starting with the 2026-27 season, the Hoosiers are doubling down on their most passionate fans by giving them prime real estate on the court.

Here's the play: The north and south court-level bleachers—traditionally reserved for general public season ticket holders—will now be student territory. That shift opens up 1,200 court-side seats for the student section, nearly double what was available before. It's a strategic pivot designed to crank up the decibel level and make Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall even more intimidating for visiting teams.

"We are excited to continue making Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall the toughest road environment in all of college basketball," said head coach Darian DeVries. "We appreciate all the support we have received from Hoosier Nation and look forward to seeing you all this season."

The decision came straight from student feedback, according to the school's announcement. Athletic Director Scott Dolson emphasized the importance of the student body, calling them "the heartbeat of this campus" and noting that the change "recognizes and celebrates that by giving our students a huge percentage of the best seats."

This fan-first move comes as the program looks to rebuild momentum. After finishing 18-14 last season (9-11 in Big Ten play) and missing the NCAA Tournament for a third consecutive year, DeVries has been busy reshaping the roster. He's landed six transfers, including standout guards Markus Burton from Notre Dame and Aiden Sherrell from Alabama—a haul ranked No. 3 nationally by 247 Sports. With only one scholarship player, Trent Sisley, returning from last year's squad, the energy in the stands could be just what this new-look team needs to find its rhythm.
