Indiana basketball's roster rebuild continues, as guard Nick Dorn plans to enter the transfer portal, according to multiple reports. Dorn, the only remaining starter with eligibility, becomes the sixth Hoosier to enter the portal this offseason, joining five players who exhausted their eligibility.
This marks the second consecutive year Dorn will seek a new program, following his transfer from Elon. His lone season in Bloomington was a story of tantalizing potential hampered by injury and inconsistency. After recovering from a Jones fracture suffered at Elon, which required follow-up surgery, Dorn wasn't fully cleared until just before the season opener.
Once healthy, the junior guard showed flashes of the scoring punch Indiana desperately needed. Stepping into the starting lineup midseason, he erupted for a three-game stretch, averaging 22.3 points and connecting on 16 three-pointers to lead a Hoosiers winning streak. For the season, he averaged 8.1 points and led the team by shooting 38% from beyond the arc.
However, Dorn struggled to maintain that high level as Indiana's season faded down the stretch. Over the final 10 games, his production dipped to 5.0 points per game on 24.6% shooting, and he was moved back to a bench role for the Big Ten Tournament. With Dorn's departure, head coach Darian DeVries loses the highest-scoring player from his roster who had remaining eligibility.
The transfer window for Division I basketball runs from April 7-21, giving Dorn a clear timeline to find his next destination. For Coach DeVries and newly hired executive director of basketball Ryan Carr, the focus now sharpens on aggressively rebuilding the roster after Indiana opted out of postseason play following its NCAA Tournament snub.
