The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum has officially broken ground on an exciting new chapter. On Wednesday morning, construction began on the Museum's new Restoration and Event Center, located at 1111 Polco Street—just blocks from the iconic track.
This state-of-the-art facility will span an impressive 87,000 square feet, serving as a dedicated home for approximately 150 Indy cars currently scattered around the city. But the real thrill? Fans will finally get a front-row seat to watch these legendary vehicles undergo restoration from start to finish. Imagine seeing history come back to life, one bolt and polish at a time.
"I was able to inherit a lot of other people's visions, and it's so exciting to take those visions and bring them to life," said Michael Good, who is just four months into his role as the organization's president. "It's really more than a ribbon-cutting—this is a transformational moment for the museum. This is a vision becoming a reality that's been in play for a long time, and we're actually able to see it start to take shape."
The original IMS Museum first opened its doors back in 1956, but since 1976, it has operated within the same space in the track's infield. Over the decades, the museum has undergone several renovations, most recently in 2023—a project that was completed in March 2025. Yet Good emphasizes that this new center is something entirely different. It's not just an update; it's a bold leap forward, designed to deepen the fan experience and preserve racing heritage in a way that's never been done before.
For motorsport enthusiasts and casual fans alike, this center promises to be a must-visit destination—a place where the roar of the past meets the craftsmanship of the present. Stay tuned as this exciting project takes shape.
