Ian Happ hit a long home run and five Chicago Cubs pitchers combined for a 2-0 shutout of the Atlanta Braves on Thursday night, snapping a four-game losing streak. Ben Brown made his second straight start after starting the season with 12 appearances out of the bullpen. Hoby Milner (1-0) earned the win with two scoreless innings, Phil Maton and Jacob Webb each threw a scoreless frame and Daniel Palencia struck out two in the ninth for his third save.

After a rough stretch, the Chicago Cubs got back in the win column with a crisp 2-0 victory over the Atlanta Braves on Thursday night, snapping a four-game losing streak. Ian Happ provided the big blow with a towering home run, while a collective effort from five Cubs pitchers kept the high-powered Braves offense in check.

Ben Brown, making just his second start after opening the season in the bullpen, was sharp from the outset. The right-hander scattered just one hit over four innings, striking out seven on 65 pitches. In his two starts this season, Brown has yet to allow a run over eight innings—a promising sign for a Cubs team looking to stabilize its rotation.

The bullpen took it from there. Hoby Milner (1-0) earned the win with two scoreless innings, while Phil Maton and Jacob Webb each added a clean frame. Daniel Palencia closed the door in the ninth, striking out two for his third save of the season. The Braves, who lead the majors in runs scored, were held to just five hits—only the second time they've been shut out all year.

Chris Sale (6-3) was nearly as effective for Atlanta, allowing just one unearned run over six innings. The veteran left-hander worked around five hits and two walks, striking out eight, but the Cubs finally broke through in the sixth. With Happ on first, Seiya Suzuki grounded to shortstop Ha-Seong Kim, whose errant flip to second base sailed over Ozzie Albies' head, putting runners on the corners. Matt Shaw's fielder's choice brought Happ home for the game's first run.

Happ then put the game out of reach in the eighth, launching a 424-foot solo shot off Reynaldo López that bounced off the side of the Chop House restaurant in right field. Michael Busch also extended his on-base streak to 15 games with a single in the third.

The Cubs now turn their attention to a weekend series against their crosstown rivals, the Chicago White Sox, starting Friday. Right-hander Edward Cabrera (3-1, 3.88) gets the ball for Chicago, while the White Sox counter with Sean Burke (2-3, 3.68).
