The 27-year-old Austria international was targeted with vile, dehumanizing comments on social media following Spurs' 2-2 draw against Brighton on April 18—a match that fell during the Premier League's No Room For Racism campaign, which aims to promote diversity and tackle discrimination in football.

This isn't the first time Danso has faced such abuse. He revealed to ITV News that he experienced similar attacks while playing in Germany earlier in his career, but back then, he kept it to himself. "I was very young and I didn't tell anybody about it," Danso said. "This time it was important to say something, just address it and make sure that people are aware I've seen it."

His response is one of quiet defiance. "It's not going to make me play any different, and definitely there's no need for it. Basically, you're wasting your time," he added, making it clear that the abuse won't shake his focus on the pitch. Growing up in Austria, he learned to navigate a predominantly white society, facing racism from a young age. "I've learned how to deal with it in a way," he explained. "I just try not to let it have as much of an effect on me and how I feel about myself and my performance."

Tottenham swiftly condemned the abuse, labeling it as "vile" and "dehumanizing." The Premier League also issued a strong statement, emphasizing that discriminatory behavior has "absolutely no place in football or wider society." They added, "Anybody who chooses to abuse others is not welcome in our game, and they are not a true fan. It is clear that more needs to be done to address this issue."

Danso, who joined Tottenham permanently in May 2025 after stints with Augsburg and Lens, is now focused on what he does best: playing at the highest level.
