Barcelona's Brazilian forward Raphinha has delivered a refreshingly honest message ahead of Sunday's blockbuster El Clásico against Real Madrid—warning fans not to expect him to be a carbon copy of the injured teenage sensation Lamine Yamal.
With Yamal ruled out and Raphinha himself still working back to full fitness after a hamstring layoff, manager Hansi Flick faces some tough selection calls for the showdown at the Santiago Bernabéu. When asked if he could step into Yamal's shoes on the right wing, Raphinha didn't mince words.
"I'm comfortable with playing on the right. Obviously, if I play there on the right wing, they shouldn't expect anything special because I'm not Lamine," he told Movistar. "Lamine is a star and I'll give my best as always in whatever position I play, but please don't expect from me something like Lamine."
It's a humble admission from a player who knows his own strengths—and the unique brilliance of his 17-year-old teammate. While Raphinha may start on the bench, his record against Real Madrid speaks volumes: the winger has netted seven goals in his last five appearances against Los Blancos, a statistic that will give Barça fans plenty of hope.
Whether he's deployed from the start or as an impact substitute, one thing is certain—Raphinha will be giving everything he has in the famous Blaugrana shirt.
