Sanju Samson has finally broken his silence on the growing speculation surrounding his role at Chennai Super Kings, and his message is crystal clear: he's all in for his captain.
Following one of the biggest trades ahead of IPL 2026, Samson made the high-profile switch from Rajasthan Royals to CSK. The move sparked immediate chatter about a potential leadership succession plan, especially with MS Dhoni approaching the twilight of his legendary IPL career. But Samson isn't buying into the hype.
"I am here to play for my team. I'll play for my captain Ruturaj. I'll play for my coach Stephen Fleming," Samson stated firmly on the Super Kings podcast, putting an end to any captaincy rumors.
The stylish right-hander has been in sensational form this season, stepping into wicketkeeping duties with Dhoni sidelined due to injury. With 430 runs in 11 innings at an impressive average of 53.75 and a blistering strike rate of 169.29—including two centuries and a fifty—Samson has been a cornerstone of CSK's batting lineup.
What's even more heartening for CSK fans is the chemistry between Samson and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. "Rutu and my friendship can also be seen while we are fielding. We both are working through this together," Samson revealed, highlighting a bond that's translating into on-field success.
And then there's the Dhoni factor. Samson couldn't hide his admiration for the CSK icon. "I love to be with Mahi bhai wherever possible. Whenever I come here, I try to find time to go and meet him in his room," he shared, giving fans a glimpse into the special camaraderie within the CSK camp.
Samson's comments came on the heels of CSK's third consecutive victory—a thrilling five-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants at Chepauk. But the day belonged to youngster Urvil Patel, who lit up the stadium with a record-breaking 13-ball fifty, equaling the fastest half-century in IPL history, before smashing 65 off just 23 balls. CSK chased down a daunting 208 with four balls to spare, thanks to late heroics from impact player Prash.
With Samson locked in, Gaikwad leading from the front, and young guns firing, CSK looks every bit the championship contender fans have come to expect.
