Matthew Stafford’s future with the Los Angeles Rams has become a hot topic, especially after the team invested a first-round pick in quarterback Ty Simpson. But while fans and analysts are buzzing about what’s next, Kelly Stafford—Matthew’s wife—isn’t losing any sleep over the conversation.
During a recent Instagram Q&A, Kelly was asked whether her husband could keep playing for five more years. Her response was as confident as it was playful: “Up to these 4 ladies… but I could see that happening 😣.” The “four ladies” she’s referring to? Their four daughters, who Kelly believes will ultimately decide when it’s time for Dad to hang up his cleats. For now, though, she’s not seeing any reason to slow down.
And honestly, it’s hard to argue with her. Stafford just wrapped up what might be the best season of his 17-year career. He led the NFL with 4,707 passing yards and set a franchise record with 46 touchdown passes—topping the league in both categories for the first time ever. That performance earned him his third Pro Bowl nod and, on February 5, 2026, the MVP award at the 15th NFL Honors. During his acceptance speech, Stafford made his intentions clear: “I can’t wait to be back out there playing and competing again.”
Rams head coach Sean McVay has been equally emphatic, declaring that this is “Stafford’s team for as long as he wants it.” That kind of backing from the organization speaks volumes, especially after they used a first-round pick on a young quarterback like Ty Simpson. Before Simpson’s arrival, the plan was already to maximize the current championship window with Stafford under center. Adding a rookie doesn’t change that equation.
Former NFL star Donovan McNabb echoed that sentiment on The Kay Adams Show, noting that Simpson’s selection shouldn’t be seen as a threat to Stafford’s role. “Stafford is the guy,” McNabb said. “This doesn’t change anything.”
So while the Rams are building for the future with Simpson, the present—and the near future—clearly belongs to Matthew Stafford. And if Kelly has anything to say about it, that future could stretch well beyond the next few seasons.
