The Othello Huskies girls tennis team isn't just winning; they're building a dynasty. On Wednesday, they extended their perfect season to 8-0 with a commanding 4-1 victory over Toppenish, proving that resilience is just as important as raw skill. What makes this win even more impressive? The Huskies powered through with multiple players battling illness, showcasing the true grit of a champion team.

Coach Priscilla Tovar couldn't hide her pride. "I think things went amazing," she said. "My first singles is a little under the weather, but she played hard the entire time... My doubles players all were aggressive at the net today, so I'm just proud of them." This aggressive mindset at the net has become a signature of the Huskies' dominant play.

The match had its moments of intense competition. First singles player Olivia Harris embodied the team's fighting spirit, pushing through a cold in a nail-biting match against Toppenish's Rylie Carter. Though she fell just short in two tight sets (4-6, 5-7), her determination set the tone. The Huskies quickly responded, with Cierra Giles in second singles putting on a clinic, sealing a decisive 6-0, 6-3 victory to put the team result beyond doubt.

On the doubles courts, Othello's teamwork shone brightly. The first doubles duo of Shaylee Freeman and Faith Risenmay, with Risenmay also fighting a cold, secured a solid 6-4, 6-3 win. Meanwhile, the second and third doubles teams delivered swift, statement victories. Alexa Peterson and Hazel Roylance raced to a 6-1, 6-1 win, while Meila Zeuidima and Amber Freeman clinched the overall team victory with a confident 6-2, 6-2 performance.

Coach Tovar credits the team's success to a powerful mental approach. She's instilled a philosophy of "Amnesia"—forgetting the last point and playing every new one like it's the last. "I think that's what my girls have been doing consistently throughout the season," Tovar explained, "and I think that's why we're finding success." This focus on confidence and relentless net play, especially in doubles, has transformed the Huskies into an unstoppable force.

As they navigate the challenges of a long season, including battling sickness, the Huskies' dedication is unwavering. They're not just playing for wins; they're playing for each other, building the kind of chemistry and mental toughness that defines legendary teams. The rest of the league has been put on notice: these Huskies are here to dominate.
