Eddie Howe has cast doubt on Tino Livramento's chances of returning to action before the end of the season, dealing a potential blow to the defender's World Cup aspirations.
The 23-year-old full-back has missed Newcastle United's last two Premier League matches due to a thigh problem, and while Howe confirmed Livramento is making positive progress—having returned to training on the grass—the Magpies boss admitted it's unlikely he'll feature again this campaign.
"Tino's doing well. He's really improving. He's back running again. He's on the grass," Howe said in his pre-match press conference ahead of Newcastle's trip to face Nottingham Forest this weekend. "I don't think he'll be back this season. I think we could possibly push him maybe for the Fulham game but I think that would be silly really on his behalf. I think let's let him recover and get a good summer behind him."
This cautious approach makes Livramento's chances of earning a spot in the England squad appear increasingly slim. The former Southampton star has already endured an injury-impacted campaign, and with the Premier League season winding down, he has little time left to impress national team selectors.
For Newcastle fans, the priority will be ensuring Livramento returns fully fit for preseason—ready to build on his promising form and make a strong push for both club and country honors next season.
