Tottenham Hotspur Women have just wrapped up their most successful season in the Women's Super League, finishing as the 'best of the rest' in fifth place. But the big question is: how do they make sure this isn't just a flash in the pan?
Under the guidance of manager Martin Ho, Spurs have already set a new club record with 33 points, and they have one match still to play. Traditionally, teams that finish fifth—just outside the dominant top four—tend to struggle the following season. But Ho is determined to break that cycle. "We want this club to be recognised as not just one of the best in the UK, but in Europe," he said, making it clear that Spurs have their sights set on sustained success.
It's been quite a turnaround. Last summer, Tottenham were a bruised side, finishing second from bottom in the WSL. Only relegated Crystal Palace conceded more goals, and that poor campaign led to the sacking of manager Robert Vilahamn. Enter Martin Ho, who joined from Norwegian side SK Brann after leading them to the Champions League quarter-finals. His impact was immediate: Spurs won four of their first five matches, with their only loss coming against champions Manchester City. Impressive draws with Arsenal and Manchester United followed, and by the start of 2026, Spurs were level on points with the Gunners in third place.
What changed? Ho introduced an aggressive pressing style, more creativity in possession, and a structured defence. Smart recruitment also played a key role. The team's improvement was so noticeable that Ho was rewarded with a new long-term contract in March. While they've fallen away from the top four in recent months, the overall mood is positive as they head into the summer.
Reflecting on the season, Ho said: "It's been positive in numerous aspects, on and off the pitch. There has been a lot of learning and development. It's given us really strong foundations to build on in the future. However, finishing fifth doesn't win you anything. We want to win, compete, and lift trophies."
For Spurs fans, the foundation is set. Now, it's about building on that momentum and proving that this season was just the beginning.
