Portland is set to make its preseason debut as a franchise after the WNBA expanded to 15 teams, with the Fire and the Toronto Tempo joining the league. The Fire took part in the expansion draft, selecting Bridget Carleton first overall. Carleton last played with the Minnesota Lynx, averaging 6.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in 44 games. The Fire chose 22-year-old guard Carla Leite second, coming off her rookie season for the Golden State Valkyries, averaging 7.2 points per game.
The Storm are coming off a rather uninspiring 2025 season where they went 23-21, and narrowly made the playoffs, before losing in three games to the Las Vegas Aces. In part due to last season’s middle-of-the-pack results, the Storm made some big overhauls in the offseason, losing each of their top three scorers (Gabby Williams, Skylar Diggins, Nneka Ogwumike).
This is a great WNBA matchup that you will not want to miss; make sure to tune in and catch all the action.
