For the defending champion Las Vegas Aces, this brief offseason was a masterclass in team culture—and it may have just secured their dynasty.

When contract negotiations for a new collective bargaining agreement dragged on, chaos rippled through the WNBA. Many players across the league hesitated to sign new deals, leaving Aces general manager Nikki Fargas with little certainty as spring approached. To make matters worse, Aaliyah Nye—one of the few Aces players already under contract—was snatched up by the Toronto Tempo in the expansion draft. Suddenly, the defending champs were on the back foot before they could even bring their own roster back together.

It was the kind of unprecedented offseason turmoil that could have gutted any team. But the Aces didn't just survive the storm—they thrived.

Instead of losing key pieces, Las Vegas retained the core that powered them to their third championship in four years. The star trio of A'ja Wilson, Jackie Young, and Chelsea Gray remains intact, and the team kept 90% of its scoring depth from last season. The only notable departures were Kiah Stokes and Megan Gustafson—losses quickly offset by a trio of savvy additions: former All-Defense standout Brianna Turner, three-time Olympian Stephanie Talbot, and former top-five pick Chennedy Carter.

For Talbot, the decision to join the Aces was about more than basketball—it was about the environment. "I think, obviously, the amount of great players I have on this team and wanting to play with them," she said during Media Day. "But I think my conversations with Coach Becky Hammon, how she sees the game, how she sees I can fit into this team, and the way that you guys build your culture here—it's fun. We work hard. There's a winning culture. But yeah, they like to have fun as well."

That winning culture starts with a nucleus that has been one of the most consistent in the WNBA. Wilson, Young, and Gray have led the charge for all three championships, and their chemistry is the foundation of everything the Aces do. This offseason proved that when you build a culture of hard work, trust, and fun, players want to be part of it—even when the rest of the league is in flux.
