The Southern Miss Golden Eagles are making a powerful late-season statement, and their NCAA Tournament regional hosting dreams are looking more realistic than ever.
The No. 13 Golden Eagles (37-14, 19-8 Sun Belt Conference) traveled to Harrisonburg, Virginia, and delivered a decisive three-game sweep of James Madison (20-30, 10-17) at Veterans Memorial Park. This marks their third consecutive conference series win and, notably, their first road conference sweep of the season—a crucial achievement that bolsters both their resume and their RPI standing.
The series began with a dramatic comeback. In the opener on May 8, Southern Miss trailed before erupting for six runs in the seventh inning to secure an 8-5 victory. Game 2 was a dominant performance, as the Golden Eagles run-ruled the Dukes 11-1 in just eight innings. They closed out the sweep on May 10 with a commanding 10-5 win, showcasing the depth and resilience that have defined their season.
With a strong RPI and a challenging schedule already in their rearview mirror, the Golden Eagles are positioning themselves as a serious contender to host an NCAA Regional. Every win from here on out only strengthens their case—and this sweep was a major step forward.
