The Carolina Panthers are facing a pivotal decision regarding quarterback Bryce Young's future with the team, but according to recent insights from league insiders, the financial commitment might not be as steep as some might expect.

Joe Person of The Athletic recently revisited a compelling projection from January, revealing that two NFL talent evaluators estimated Young's contract extension should average around $33 million annually. That figure aligns with the current deals of former Panthers QBs Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold—a notable contrast to the $46 million per year that Kyler Murray, another No. 1 overall pick, secured from the Arizona Cardinals in 2022 after leading his team to the playoffs and earning back-to-back Pro Bowl nods.

While Murray's early career achievements outshine Young's so far—especially with an Offensive Rookie of the Year award in 2019—the young Panthers signal-caller is showing promising growth. In his third season, Young posted career highs in completion percentage, passing yards, and touchdowns, while guiding Carolina to their first NFC South title since 2015. This upward trajectory suggests he's finding his rhythm at the right time.

If the Panthers and Young settle on that $33 million annual average, it would place the former No. 1 pick in the lower tier of starting quarterback salaries by current standards. For context, Young is already set to earn a fifth-year option of roughly $25.9 million in 2027—not far off from the projected extension figure. As of now, Carolina isn't expected to negotiate a new deal before the 2026 season, meaning plenty could shift—including those numbers—by this time next year.

For Panthers fans, this represents a potential bargain if Young continues his ascent, offering the team cap flexibility to build around their franchise QB. Whether it's game day gear or a new jersey, staying ready for the next chapter is key.
