Sometimes, the best swing advice comes from the most unexpected source—like a toddler. For PGA Tour star Cameron Young, that source is his 3-year-old son, John.
In a recent interview ahead of this week's PGA Championship, Young was asked about his daily screen time. "I look at golf swing videos for more time than I'd like to admit," he confessed. But one video in particular has changed his game entirely.
It was a clip of his young son swinging a club. David Young, Cameron's father and longtime coach, noticed something special in that video. "John does a lot of things Cam did when he was really small," David explained. The comparison sparked an "aha" moment for the younger Young.
"Cam said, 'Wow, that kind of looks like I used to feel,'" David recalled. The realization? Cameron had lost a bit of that natural rhythm and balance that made his swing so effective as a kid. He was trying too hard to stay still and controlled, when what he really needed was to let his body move freely, just like his son does.
The results have been nothing short of spectacular. Since that swing revelation, Young has captured two big titles—The Players Championship and the Cadillac Championship—and finished T-3 at the Masters. His stats paint an even clearer picture: he's ranked sixth on the PGA Tour in strokes gained tee to green, sixth off the tee, and 21st in approach shots. Perhaps most impressively, he's second in bogey avoidance and fourth in scoring average.
"It wasn't about changing the club much," David emphasized. "It was just some feel-based things to get back to what he does more naturally."
So the next time you're struggling with your swing, maybe take a cue from Cameron Young. Watch a kid swing a club—they don't overthink, they don't force it. They just move. And sometimes, that's exactly the reminder a golfer needs to find their groove again.
