Franklin County athletes turned in a powerhouse performance at the Mid-Penn track and field championships on May 9, held at Trojan Stadium in Chambersburg. The county’s competitors brought home a staggering total of five individual gold medals and three relay golds, showcasing the depth of talent in the region.

The Greencastle-Antrim 4x100 relay team set the tone early, blazing to a gold medal finish with a time of 42.89. The squad—Logan Andou, Cort Bradley, Jeremiah Amstutz, and Spencer Long—executed crisp handoffs and explosive speed to claim the top spot. Meanwhile, the Chambersburg girls’ 4x100 relay team also struck gold, crossing the line in 49.52, thanks to a seamless exchange from Bree Paetow to Addie Brubaker.

Individual standouts included Chambersburg’s Brock Chlebowski, who powered through the 400 meters with determination, and Emily Mitchell, who finished strong in the 300-meter hurdles. Isaiah Ferguson of Chambersburg also impressed in the 300-meter hurdles, sprinting with authority. On the James Buchanan side, Cheyenne Eby and Des Heinbaugh showed strong teamwork in the 4x100 relay.

The championships served as a key midseason benchmark for these athletes, many of whom are building momentum for the postseason. With five individual golds and three relay titles, Franklin County proved it’s a force to be reckoned with on the track—and a great reminder that the right gear can make all the difference when chasing gold.
