The conclusion of the 2026 NFL Draft is simply the start of the 2027 draft cycle for the football world, and Kansas City Chiefs fans are hoping the next first-round pick isn’t in as premium a position as this year’s.
Even with quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ timeline to return up in the air, the Chiefs are expected to be a playoff team, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. Kansas City has the fourth-lowest odds (-178) to be a postseason team in the AFC, putting them in position to be selected towards the back end of Round 1 once again.
So who could be a potential pick for the Chiefs in next year’s first round? Here are some names to remember during college football season, by way of a few way-too-early 2027 NFL mock drafts.
18. Kansas City Chiefs: Ellis Robinson IV, CB, Georgia
To add some context to SB Nation’s selection: Robinson is listed at 6 feet tall and 180 pounds. He started 12 games for the Bulldogs last season as a redshirt freshman and nabbed four interceptions.
27. Kansas City Chiefs: Omarion Miller, WR, Arizona State
After a breakout season at Colorado, where he averaged more than 18 yards per reception, Miller is now looking to become the second straight Arizona State receiver selected in the first round. At 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds, the Louisiana native is an easy mover who can win at all three levels, pairing production with traits that could continue to push him up boards.
Here’s a fun vision for a Travis Kelce successor. At 6-7 and 240 pounds, Green would give Patrick Mahomes an easy button in the red zone and on jump balls. Plying his trade under Kelce and learning how to threaten defenses as a detached option would set the mismatch creator up for long-term success.
24. Kansas City Chiefs: ED Matayo Uiagalelei, Oregon
The Chiefs traded up into the top 10 this year, but not for a pass rusher as many projected before the draft. Their need at the position next year will hinge on the rookie success of second-round pick R. Mason Thomas. Uiagalelei recorded 52 pressures last season and returns to lead what is projected to be the top defensive line in college football.
