Sometimes, a single conversation can unlock a player's potential. For Chennai Super Kings' young Afghan spinner Noor Ahmad, that pivotal chat came from none other than the legendary MS Dhoni, and the results were spectacular on the field.

In a crucial IPL 2026 clash against the Kolkata Knight Riders, Noor delivered a match-winning spell, taking 3 wickets for just 21 runs in his four overs. His performance was instrumental in breaking KKR's middle order and derailing their chase of 193, securing a vital victory for CSK.

The secret behind his success? CSK's assistant bowling coach, Sridharan Sriram, revealed it was a "long chat" with Dhoni during a net session. Dhoni advised the young wrist-spinner to focus on getting his leg-break working more effectively. "That is something he has been working on," Sriram said after the match. "I think it was very helpful today, and the results were there to see."

Sriram explained that the conditions at the MA Chidambaram Stadium finally played to Noor's strengths. "The wicket helped today. There was a little bit of turn for him... There was more side spin on the ball and more drop," he noted, highlighting the deviation off the pitch that is so crucial for a spinner's success.

This performance marked a significant turnaround for Noor, who had taken just one wicket in his first four matches of the season. The coaching staff pointed out that the flatter pitches earlier in the tournament had limited his impact, emphasizing the importance of staying aggressive. "Putting revs on the ball and getting the ball to spin will definitely help him a lot," Sriram stressed. "That's where you can induce mistakes."

With KKR at 79/3 in the 10th over and the game in the balance, Noor's double-wicket over—dismissing Ajinkya Rahane and Cameron Green back-to-back—swung the momentum decisively in CSK's favor. It was a perfect example of a young talent applying sage advice under pressure, proving that in cricket, mentorship can be as powerful as any technical drill.
