When you think of the Houston Rockets, jersey No. 13 might not immediately come to mind—but it has a story worth telling. In the 2009-10 season, that number belonged to Australian big man David Andersen, a player whose path to the NBA was as unique as his time in Houston.
Andersen’s journey began overseas, where he built an impressive career before being drafted 37th overall by the Atlanta Hawks in 2002. He didn’t make his NBA debut until 2009, when the Rockets signed him—making his first season in the league a memorable one in Space City.
During his lone season with Houston, Andersen exclusively wore No. 13, averaging 5.8 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. His stay was brief; he was traded to the Toronto Raptors in 2010, but his contribution to the Rockets’ rich jersey history remains.
The Rockets have seen nearly 500 players wear 52 different jersey numbers since the team’s founding in 1967. Seven of those numbers have been retired in honor of franchise legends. Andersen is one of 11 players to have worn No. 13, and while his stats may not jump off the page, his story is a reminder that every jersey tells a tale—and every player leaves a mark.
