Authorities said the male suspect, identified as Vincent Diaz, “turned a firearm on himself and died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.”

The boxing community is in mourning after a devastating tragedy in Hanford, California, where rising star Adrian Valdovinos, 25, was killed in a suspected murder-suicide early Sunday morning.

Authorities responded to reports of a disturbance around 4 a.m. on the 1500 block of University Avenue. Witnesses had heard a man and a woman arguing, and when officers arrived, they heard a gunshot from inside the home. The suspect, identified as Vincent Diaz, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound before police could intervene.

After safely removing a woman from the residence, officers conducted a thorough search and discovered Valdovinos in a bedroom, fatally wounded. Investigators believe Diaz—the ex-husband of the woman living at the home—forced his way inside and shot Valdovinos, who was her current boyfriend, before turning the gun on himself.

Known affectionately as "Angelo" to friends and family, Valdovinos was a promising boxing prospect with a bright future in the sport. Loved ones describe him as a dedicated athlete with deep roots in the community, and his sudden loss has left many grappling with grief and anger.

In a heartbreaking social media post, a woman identifying herself as Diaz's cousin wrote, "Two families lost" in the tragedy. She added, "If you knew my cousin Vincent Diaz, you would know he was a loving, caring father who would always have his girls and would never leave them. So none of this makes sense."

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation as police continue to piece together the events that led to this senseless violence. The Hanford Police Department has confirmed the case is active and ongoing.

This tragic loss serves as a stark reminder of how quickly life can change, and our thoughts are with all those affected by this devastating event.
