Two of the top high school basketball talents in the Holland area have made their college decisions official, setting the stage for the next chapter of their athletic careers.
Holland Christian guard Titus Spencer, recently named the Holland Sentinel Player of the Year and a first-team all-state selection by the Michigan Sportswriters, has committed to play at Cornerstone University. Spencer capped an unforgettable senior season by averaging 20 points, four rebounds, three steals, and three assists per game. He also crossed the 1,000 career-point milestone while leading the Maroons to the Division 2 regional finals after a district championship run.
"Titus is the most impactful player I have ever coached," said Holland Christian coach Brad Jansen. "His ability to change the game on both the defensive and offensive side of the ball in an instant is like no one else."
Joining Spencer in the next step is teammate Jake Holcomb, who has committed to Trine University in Angola, Indiana. Holcomb, an all-conference forward, averaged 15 points, five rebounds, three assists, and two steals per game this season. Known for his versatility, he's a matchup nightmare for opponents.
"Jake is the scoring option that every coach wants," Jansen added. "He can play at all three levels—shoots the 3-pointer, can elevate above the rim, and can post you up. He is a true triple threat."
Trine University, an NCAA Division III program, brings added excitement to Holcomb's commitment. The Thunder are the reigning 2024 NCAA Division III national champions, a program on the rise that will benefit from Holcomb's well-rounded game.
For fans of Holland Christian basketball, seeing these two stars commit to strong college programs is a testament to their hard work and the program's development. Whether you're gearing up for game day or just love following local talent, these commitments are a reminder that the future of Michigan basketball is bright—and it starts right here in Holland.
