The Professional Women's Hockey League is making major moves, announcing its expansion to Las Vegas and Hamilton, Ontario, for the 2026-27 season. This exciting development adds to the league's rapid growth, with Detroit already confirmed as the ninth franchise set to debut in the same year.

Las Vegas will call the iconic T-Mobile Arena home, while Hamilton will take the ice at TD Coliseum. The league highlighted the unique appeal of each market in a press release, noting Hamilton's deep-rooted hockey culture and massive girls' hockey participation, alongside Las Vegas's status as North America's entertainment capital and a community that has embraced hockey and women's sports with open arms.

Since its launch in January 2024 with six original teams—Boston, Minnesota, Montreal, New York, Ottawa, and Toronto—the PWHL has been on a fast track. Seattle and Vancouver joined for the current season, and now the league is set to hit double digits with these latest additions.

Team names for Las Vegas and Hamilton will be revealed later, but their colors are already set: Las Vegas will sport green and gold, while Hamilton will rock a classic combo of gold, maroon, and cream. The decision to bring a team to Hamilton was a no-brainer after a January PWHL Takeover Tour game at TD Coliseum drew an impressive 16,012 fans for a matchup between Toronto and Seattle.

"Hamilton and its surrounding communities have long been central to the growth of girls' and women's hockey, producing generations of talented players and passionate fans," said Jayna Hefford, PWHL executive vice president of hockey operations. "The response we saw during our Takeover Tour game made it clear that fans in the region are ready to rally around a team of their own."

Meanwhile, Las Vegas has seen a surge in girls' and women's hockey participation since the NHL's Vegas Golden Knights debuted in 2017, creating a perfect foundation for the PWHL's arrival. As the league continues to expand its footprint, these new franchises promise to bring fresh energy, rivalries, and opportunities for fans to show their pride—whether they're cheering from the stands or repping their team's colors in the stands or on the streets.
