In a masterclass of executing the game plan to perfection, Brighton midfielder Jack Hinshelwood revealed how his lightning-fast goal just 35 seconds into Saturday's match was a direct result of head coach Fabian Hurzeler's tactical blueprint. The Seagulls wasted no time breaching Wolverhampton's defense, with Hinshelwood heading home a pinpoint cross from left-back Maxim de Cuyper to make history.
"The manager always speaks about starting the game fast and with intensity so that our opponents feel it," Hinshelwood explained. "And we did that. It was such a nice feeling [to score] and it set us on our way."
The early strike wasn't just a flash of brilliance—it was a statement of intent from a Brighton side that has embraced Hurzeler's high-energy philosophy. While the team may not have produced their most fluid performance with the ball, Hinshelwood emphasized that results are paramount at this critical juncture of the season.
"It probably wasn't our best performance in terms of the ball, but it's results at this stage of the season that matter," he said. "We've just got to do what we can do. We did that against Wolves and we go to Elland Road next weekend and try to do the same again."
With the Premier League race heating up, Brighton's ability to strike early and maintain intensity could be the difference-maker. As Hinshelwood put it: "We just have to give our all like we have been doing and get two good results to see where it takes us."
