When the Hingham High boys' track team stepped onto their home track on May 5, they carried more than just their spikes and batons. The recent passing of longtime head coach Fred Jewett weighed heavily on their hearts, but the Harbormen channeled that emotion into an unforgettable performance, delivering a commanding 89–47 victory over Duxbury.
The win wasn't just about the final score—it was a showcase of speed, depth, and a flurry of personal bests that kept the crowd on its feet. Meanwhile, the Hingham girls' team showed tremendous heart in a 104-32 loss to Duxbury, posting personal records around every turn of the oval and proving that resilience is its own kind of victory.
On the boys' side, the sprinters set the tone early. Graham Carlson grabbed second in the 100m and followed with a personal best in the 200m for another runner-up finish. Michael Blackwood added a PR for third in the 100m, while Jahbriel Johnson posted a personal best in the 200m (third) before returning to dominate the 400m with yet another PR for the win. John Hamilton capped off the sprint squad with a PR of his own for third in the 400m.
The distance crew turned the meet into a showcase of endurance and determination. Gavin Anderson and Travis O'Neil went 1-2 in the mile with matching personal bests of 4:45 and 4:47, then doubled back to do it again in the 2-mile—again with PRs. Freshman Elliot Sandifer added a PR for fourth in the mile, while Tommy Simpson took first in the 800m and Brendan O'Neil placed third.
Over the hurdles, Nolan McManus ran a PR for second in the 110m hurdles, then came back to win the 400m hurdles with another personal best. Lundon Jackson followed closely, also recording a PR.
The relay team of Jack Griffiths, Jordan Johnson, Connor Gately, and Josh Greisner captured first in the 4x100m, showing the kind of seamless teamwork that defines championship-caliber squads.
In the field events, Owen Bernard won the discus while Evan Benham earned a PR for fourth. Bernard and Zach Wong (PR) led a strong showing in shot put, and Wong returned to win the javelin with Alec Menuchi taking second.
The jumps added another layer of dominance as Hingham swept the long jump with Josh Greisner (PR), Jordan Johnson, and Harrison Nastou (PR). Nastou also placed third in the high jump with a PR, while Greisner won the triple jump with a personal best and Simpson added a third-place finish.
With this victory, Hingham boys track remains undefeated and now sets its sights on a Patriot League title showdown against Marshfield. If this performance is any indication, the Harbormen are running with purpose—and they're not slowing down anytime soon.
