SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — The Angelo State University baseball team scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and held off West Texas A&M 5-3 in the opener of a four-game series Friday night at Foster Field.
The contest was knotted at 3-3 after three innings, before Christian Garnette’s sacrifice fly and Blake Wilhoite’s RBI single in the fourth.
ASU improved to 26-13 in the Lone Star Conference. West Texas dropped to 23-16.
Reliever Garrett Villa earned the win, after giving up just one hit and no earned runs in 1.2 innings. Garrett Baumann worked the final five innings to record his first save of the season.
The series will resume with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday. The finale is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday.
This is the next-to-last home series of the regular season for the Rams.
