Highland Community College is set to welcome Devin Kastrup as the new head coach of the men’s basketball team, pending approval by the Board of Trustees, according to a community announcement.

Kastrup brings a diverse coaching background and a history of program turnarounds at the college level. He most recently served as an assistant coach at Idaho State University and previously led Cloud County Community College to its first NJCAA Division I national ranking since 2015. Prior to that, he was head coach at Southwestern Community College in Iowa, where he helped triple the team’s wins in the 2019–20 season.

Kastrup graduated from Western Colorado University with a degree in exercise and sports science. He played professional basketball for three seasons in Spain and China before an injury in 2017 led him to transition into coaching.

“Every step of my career has prepared me for this opportunity. At my previous stops, we built programs with a clear identity centered on toughness, discipline, and togetherness - and that standard will define us here as well.” Kastrup said, according to the announcement.

Michael Broskowski, director of athletics and physical education at Highland, expressed enthusiasm for Kastrup’s appointment, citing his experience in rebuilding programs and building community connections.

As Highland prepares for a new season in 2026, Kastrup shared his plans for the team.

“We will recruit competitors, develop relentlessly, and build a team that plays with edge and purpose every night. Our goal is simple: compete at a championship level while representing Highland the right way on and off the court.”
