The opening day of the 4A, 3A, 2A, and 1A state track and field meet at BYU set the stage for an electrifying weekend, with athletes pushing limits and making history. The action resumes Saturday, featuring over 10 hours of finals across all classifications, promising intense competition and unforgettable moments.

Friday’s highlight was a new classification state record in the 4x800 relay. Mountain View’s team—Peter Hedengren, Daniel Anderson, Wyatt Jeppson, and Kyle Chipman—blazed to a time of 7:49.18, shattering Stansbury’s previous record of 7:52.27 from last year. This performance signals Mountain View’s strength in distance events and sets a high bar for Saturday’s finals.

Pine View’s Kiera Sam Fong emerged as a standout, dominating the 4A shot put and discus. Her double win showcases her versatility and power, making her one to watch in future meets. Meanwhile, most track events on Friday were heats, as runners vied for spots in Saturday’s finals, building anticipation for the championship races.

In a thrilling 3A girls 3,200-meter race, Ogden’s Avery Barton edged Carbon’s Rozlyn Stowe by just 1.21 seconds, finishing with a time that nearly broke the 3A record—missing it by only 1.10 seconds. This close contest highlights the depth of talent in the 3A division.
