Get ready for a championship showdown that's been brewing all season long. The top two seeds in the 1A softball tournament—Altamont and Milford—are set to face off in the title game, and the stakes couldn't be higher.

Altamont, the No. 2 seed, made a powerful statement in Friday's semifinal, jumping out to a commanding 10-0 lead by the second inning and cruising to a 13-3 victory over top-seeded Milford. But don't count the Tigers out just yet. Milford battled back through the one-loss bracket, defeating Wayne to earn a rematch in Saturday's championship at 11 a.m. at BYU's Gail Miller Field.

This year marks a historic first for 1A softball, as these schools are competing in their own state tournament instead of facing off against larger 2A programs. In past seasons, a deep playoff run was a tall order for 1A teams, but the new division has sparked a fresh wave of confidence. Altamont coach Bailee Trapp noticed the shift from day one. "They set that goal right after tryouts," she said. "They knew what they were going for."

To fuel that championship fire, Trapp took her team to a BYU game against Iowa State three weeks ago, where they got to step onto the field afterward for a home run derby. Now, the Longhorns will play on that same diamond with a title on the line—a full-circle moment that has the team buzzing.

The season series between these two rivals was split, adding extra intrigue to Friday's semifinal. But Altamont came out swinging, scoring four runs in the first inning and six in the second to build an early lead that Milford couldn't overcome. "We knew we had to jump on them and make a statement," Trapp said, praising her team's execution.

Now, all eyes turn to Saturday's championship game. With both teams hungry for glory and a new chapter in 1A softball history being written, this is a matchup you won't want to miss.
