Morgan High School's girls golf team made a powerful statement on the opening day of the 3A state tournament, establishing a commanding lead that has the rest of the field scrambling to catch up. Competing at Stansbury Park Golf Course on Wednesday, the Trojans delivered a team score of 305—a full 18 strokes ahead of second-place Richfield, which sits at 323. Union rounds out the top three with a 338.

The depth of Morgan's lineup was on full display, with all four of its top golfers landing inside the top 10 individually. Leading the charge is freshman Taya Snow, who fired a 2-over 74 to take the Day 1 lead in the medalist race. But the competition is tight, with four players—including two of Snow's own teammates—just two strokes back heading into Thursday's final round.

Those in hot pursuit include Grantsville's Lindsey Wangsgard, Morgan's Ruby Wilding and Sophie DeMond, and Richfield's Hailey Hair, all of whom shot 4-over 76s. With Morgan's depth and a comfortable team lead, the Trojans are poised to make a strong bid for the top of the 3A podium, but the individual medalist battle promises plenty of drama on the final day.
